A Close Look At Certified Nurse Aid Training Kansas City MO

By Sarah Meyer

The United States has a fast growing senior population now and this is producing a huge demand for Certified Nurse Aides to help in hospitals and nursing homes. Certified Nurse Aide Training Kansas City MO is a fast growing medical field. Now is a great time to consider making this training a life-time career.

Any person who is at least 18 years old and has either a high school diploma or a GED certificate can study to become a certified nursing assistant. The classes are offered in a community college, a trade school or a local medical facility. Before starting, it is necessary to make sure the course is approved by the state nursing board.

Additional requirements for training include a record of immunizations, results of a recent TB test and a physical exam. She needs to become certified in First Aid and CPR. She will also be required to have a background check using fingerprints and have a valid drivers license or ID card. Each state has different requirements, but the requirements will be between 75 to 180 hours of training. That includes anywhere from 16 to 100 hours of clinical training.

A CNA is the part of the nursing staff that works closest with the patient and helps care for their most personal, basic needs each day. They are often the first person a patient sees in the morning as they come in to bathe them and help them get dressed for the day. Because of their close work with the patient, they are the ones that the nurses and doctors depend on to report any changes they observe in the patient.

In many ways, the patient is the responsibility of the CNA. It is up to her to keep bedridden patients comfortable by repositioning and turning them. It is up to her to answer the call button and to feed the ones who cannot feed themselves. She records their temperature, blood pressure, how much they drink and how much they eat during the day. The nurses often depend on her help in changing wound dressings and in other medical procedures. It is her job to keep the medical staff up-to-date on the persons daily condition.

This job has its ups and downs. It can be extremely taxing physically and sometimes there are responsibilities that are not too pleasant. Other days or nights a beloved patient may pass away. A big plus in this job is that the CNA is one of the few who get to develop a close relationship with a patient.

The possibility for CNA jobs is very high this year because of the aging population and their rising need for more personal health care. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is saying that the need for professionals in this area should continue to increase. They think it will grow eleven percent up through the next eight years. That is a faster growth rate than regular job opportunities offer.

Making money is the goal of every professional nurse assistant. The average yearly wage for this profession is twenty-six thousand dollars. Others make more and some make less. It mainly depends on the place of work, the state and the amount of experience a person has. Some higher paid CNAs make over thirty-six thousand dollars. It is easier to make more by continuing to move up the nursing ladder and become an LPN or a registered nurse.
