Advantages Of Using Naturopathy And Cancer Treatment

By Carol Wood

Naturopathy is the practice of using herbal and natural remedies in the treatment of illness to facilitate the body's own healing mechanism. It is an alternative treatment to traditional medicine. There are benefits of naturopathy and cancer treatment that can enhance and improve one's quality of life.

In seeing a naturopathic practitioner, a cancer patient can use this alternative in addition to traditional cancer treatments. The naturopath works in conjunction with medical doctors to improve the patient's response to treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. These methods can help the patient to better tolerate their symptoms and help them to function at a higher level than they would otherwise without any additional treatment.

Herbs and roots are used in the medicines of naturopathy and have very few side effects. Often this can help to control the side effects experienced from more traditional treatments of cancer. The patient sees a naturopathic doctor to help them improve their quality of life and to seek alternatives that can help the body to heal itself.

Naturopathic medicine practitioners are independent of medical doctors and do not take the place of traditional medicine but rather enhances and works with modern medical practices. A naturopathic doctor has taken courses in a four-year college or university to learn about these alternative remedies and has studied natural medicine and received their degree or license from the state.

Some naturopathic practitioners attend four-year colleges or universities to study this type of medicine and receive a degree and are then licensed to practice within their state as an ND. There are some who study on their own but do not become doctors and are just practitioners who have studied the art of this type of medicine.

Not every state will license a naturopathic doctor and some states do not have practicing NDs or endorse this type of treatment. You must research whether your state allows this type of practice and if not which states do. If you are seeking the services of and ND you may have to relocate if your state does not endorse this type of medical treatment.

Naturopathy uses many forms of treatment such as vitamin and mineral therapy, massage techniques, herbal remedies, spinal manipulation and other such treatments to aid the patient in healing from illness or injury. This method of treatment is considered to be holistic in that is considers the whole person and not just their illness or symptoms.

If you are seeking alternatives for your cancer treatment you should consider naturopathy as a source. It can help to bring about your body's own healing response and improve your quality of life while you go through traditional medical treatments. Check with your state or licensing board to find a naturopathic practitioner near you.
