3 Chemicals You Need

Every pool owner has to deal with chemicals at some point in time.  When dealing with chemicals, there are a few things that you should know.  No matter how many chemicals you have, you should never attempt to mix them together.  Also, you should never try to add water to dry chemicals of any form.  Last but not least, you should never under any circumstances attempt to handle chemicals with your bare hands.

Throughout your time of owning a pool, there are 3 chemicals that you simply must have for your pool.  These chemicals are very important, as you’ll be using them quite frequently.

1.  Chlorine tablets
Chlorine tablets come in dimensions of either 1 inch or 3 inch.  Chlorine tablets go in your skimmer, normally 3 - 4 tablets at a time.  During the summer, when you run your pool on a daily basis, you’ll need to change out your tablets every week or so.  If you are planning to use 2 skimmers, you’ll need around 8 tablets each week.  You can buy chlorine tablets by the bucket, containing 30 - 50 tablets.  They can tend to get expensive, around $80.00 a bucket, so you’ll need to have plenty of money to invest in your pool during the summer.

2.  Alkaline powder
Even though chlorine in your water will help to kill off germs, it can also raise the level of acid in your pool.  If you aren’t using enough alkaline, parts that contain metal will begin to corrode, turning your water a misty green color.  On the other hand, if you are using too much alkaline powder, the water will get very cloudy, raising the level of germs in the water - which can lead to very dangerous health issues.  In order to get the right about of alkaline powder in your pool water, you should always use brand name alkaline powders in the amount recommended by the package.

3.  Chlorine powder
Chlorine powder is essential to killing germs such as algae and bacteria that exist in your pool and multiply at very fast speeds.  To kill off these germs, you’ll need to use a large amount of chlorine powder in your water.  Depending on the size of your pool, you may need to use more powder than others.  Chlorine powder can tend to be expensive, so you should always check how much you need before you buy.  This is a chemical you must have, as it’s impossible to keep your pool free of germs without it.  If you have already bought it or if you plan to buy a large supply, you shouldn’t worry as you’ll always have the need for it - meaning that you can never buy enough chlorine powder.

How To Use Exercise Bands

Staying fit and active is always a healthy habit to cultivate. Many people engage in sports, running and other activities to stay in shape. Others lift weights and practice clean living. But sometimes staying fit simply means pushing your body to do things a little bit tougher and one easy way to accomplish this is through the use of exercise bands. Being relatively cheaper and extremely versatile, exercise bands can increase resistance, muscle tone and strength to one’s daily workout.
  • NOTE: Exercise bands help add variety to a work out. They do not replace the need for free weights and proper posture. Always stop the moment you feel any pain during an exercises. And as always, consult with your physician before starting on any rehabilitation exercises.
  • Why bother with exercise bands? The beauty of exercise bands is the fact they provide a constant source of tension during a workout. Tension of course then equals resistance for the muscle to work harder against, and this in turn leads to subtle adjustments to maintain proper posture and balance, thereby giving also the core a workout. Best of all, other than being easy to store and inexpensive, one can do exercises with resistance bands even at the comfort of your own home.
  • Some tips to bear in mind. Always begin with a warm-up. Before starting any exercises, prep your body for a workout by doing a few warm up exercises and stretching. These would help you avoid suffering any cramping and reduce the chances of straining or spraining.
When doing the exercises, note if the resistance you feel is too weak or too strong. A standard set of repetitions ranges from 8 to 16. Consider using a stronger or weaker band if you find the exercise too easy or too difficult to accomplish. Maintain your proper posture at all times. And don’t rush through the exercise.
  • Work that chest. Choose a sturdy object behind you where you can wrap the band around. Hold the ends of the band in each hand. Beginning with your arms parallel to the ground and elbow slightly bent, exhale as you squeeze from the chest and press the arms the arms outwards without locking your elbows. Slowly return to the starting position.
  • Tone those arms. There are numerous arm workouts you can do with resistance bands. Here are ways to work on your biceps and triceps.
For the biceps, stand on the band with one foot that is slightly ahead of the other while you hold the ends of the band in each hand. Keep your knees slightly bent and your abdominals in. Exhale as you bend your arms upwards without moving your elbows until your palms are close to your shoulders. Slowly return to starting position. If you wish to increase tension, have both feet on the band. Spreading your feet slightly wider can further increase the resistance felt in the workout.
For triceps, the resistance band is held in front of the chest by both hands while the elbows are bent at shoulder level. While keeping one arm stationary, contract your triceps as you pull the other arm away from the chest and straight out to the side. Slowly return to starting position and complete a set of repetitions. Then do the other arm.
  • And lastly, shape those thighs. Similar to working out the biceps, hold each end in your hands while you stand on the band with both feet. Your feet should be shoulder-width apart and slightly bent. Your arms should also be bent in a half-bicep curl. Exhale as you lower into a squat, keeping knees behind toes and your back straight during the whole movement. Repeat to starting position.

How To Buy Breast Milk

Many women are blessed to produce breast milk in greater quantities than are required by their babies, while others cannot provide breast milk for reasons such as illness or medical condition, risk of transmitting unwanted substances, and adoption among others. Since breast milk is recognized as the only kind of milk that contains the appropriate amounts of all nutrients an infant needs, it is highly recommended to have babies feed on breast milk for at least one year or two.  Even though science has produced formula to replicate the nutritional value of breast milk, the latter is still considered the best for babies. Fortunately, if formula is an unlikely option for your child, you can still go for breast milk as it can be purchased as explained in the following steps.
  1. Refer to your physician. Apart from providing you ample information on breast milk or breastfeeding, your doctor will give you prescription to purchase human breast milk if formula is not an option for you. A prescription is required in order to procure donor milk. Your doctor will refer you to a human breast milk bank nearest your location where you can purchase safely processed and packaged breast milk at very economical price. You can either pick up the donor milk or have it shipped to your home in case there is no milk bank in your area. In the United States, the US Food and Drug Administration supervise human milk banks. These lactation banks are located in hospitals where breast milk from carefully screened mothers is pasteurized, decontaminated, and hermetically packaged prior to selling. All human milk banks strictly adhere to the guidelines of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America or HMBA.
  2. Pay the corresponding fee for the donor milk. To make up for the processing cost of donor breast milk, the lactation bank will charge a fee about 60% of the cost. Charges may vary in different milk banks but the price usually ranges from $2.25 to $3.00 per ounce of milk plus shipping fee of $0.25 per ounce.
  3. Find private organizations or individuals that provide breast milk. While it is highly recommended to seek your doctor’s advice and prescription prior to purchasing breast milk, you can buy from private organizations or lactating women who offer breast milk for sale. Many mothers who have oversupply of healthy breast milk personally store ounces of milk in order to help other babies and earn money as well. You can ask for medical records to prove that the milk you are getting is safe and free from any communicable diseases.
  4. Purchase breast milk online. If you have not heard of it yet, you will be surprised to know that breast milk is even made available at the popular marketplaces online. Many nursing mothers also host their own blog sites where they market their breast milk.  The cost is expectedly cheaper compared to breast milk provided by milk banks.
While you can find wet nurses or purchase breast milk online, it pays to be certain about the safety and cleanliness of the breast milk you purchase. Apart from ensuring the nursing mother is free from any illnesses, verify how the breast milk is processed and packaged.
