Affordable Retirement Communities St Johns County FL

By Larry Moore

Florida has always been a well known part-time option for retirees living in areas with harsh winter conditions. While many seniors are still active, there are others whom no longer can or wish to travel each winter. As such, Retirement Communities St Johns County FL are now offering affordable options for full and part-time stays whether desiring to own a home, rent an apartment or live in a mobile or RV park.

In most cases, senior residences in other areas of the United States are often limited to assisted and independent living apartment communities. As such, many are left without the option of home ownership during later years in life. Whereas, in Florida, individuals and couples can often find affordable condos, manufactured homes, mobile homes and RV parks with long-term and short-stay options.

For those looking to purchase a home in the area, costs are much lower than in other areas. Take for example, the popular Coquina Crossing in nearby Elkton where homes range from just under $99,000 to the mid-150s. The location is a lakefront community which features 300 acres with plans to develop over 600 homes for active seniors.

In addition, these communities tend to offer area restaurants, on-site food services, business centers, learning centers, interest groups, arts and crafts, pools, spas, fitness centers along with a number of pre-planned indoor and outdoor group activities. Whereas, most are conveniently located to public services, grocery stores and shopping centers. As such, seniors can often walk to and from a variety of locations once driving is no longer an option.

An even better value for seniors is that of Plantation Oaks, where home prices are currently priced at $78,750. Plantation Oaks located on the coast between Ormond Beach and St. Augustine offers a number of amenities for those 55 and over. In this case, the community exist of a mobile home park, golf communities and private homes.

Other options include those which look over the St Johns river. For example, one such community offers a number of river view villas and private homes ranging from small to mid-size. One, located in Satsuma, Florida offers scenic views with new and pre-owned manufactured homes priced from $50,000 to the mid-130s.

Individuals 55 and over whom still love to travel may want to consider a 55+ RV resort. Whether looking for short or long-term stays, these resorts are often some of the most affordable when it comes to senior living. In addition, unlike senior mobile home parks which charge a lot rent and utilities which often have annual rent increases on an annual basis, RV parks are much less likely to do so. RV parks focused on seniors 55+ also tend to offer all-inclusive options for longer stays and generally feature free cable, wireless internet connections or satellite.

In most cases, 55+ RV parks and those with general populations will offer a number of amenities that can be far less expensive than that of mobile home parks. In addition, while owners often increase rents on mobile home parks on an annual basis and require a lease, RV parks are often on a per night or month to month basis. Whereas, RV parks are also generally located near ocean beaches, lakefronts and National or state parks. As such, there are often bike and hike trails, parks with daily, weekly or monthly activities and scenic views.
