Chiropractor Kent WA Promotes Healing Through Paraffin Bath

By Andre Ferlo

Even though saying paraffin bath may bring to mind nineteenth century approach to medicine, similar to whale oil, it is a beneficial technique used in modern chiropractic offices. They are often included in personalized patient approaches devised by a chiropractor Kent WA for better healing.

This particular method is quite beneficial to individuals who have soreness in their feet or hands from conditions such as arthritis. It is also great for the skin. To begin the process, the paraffin is placed into a specific type of vat, or a large crock pot, and heated to around 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Then the patient immerses one foot or hand into the melted wax repeatedly until the coating is roughly 1/4" thick, and then allows it to solidify and cool for about twenty minutes.

Before attempting the procedure on one's own, it is best to consult a chiropractic professional or physical therapist to understand the correct steps and avoid possible fires or heat burns. Many spas also offer this type of therapy.

Paraffin therapy soothes pain in the joints, relaxes muscles and improves blood flow. In addition to arthritis and muscle soreness, it can also help relieve the symptoms of bursitis, eczema and psoriasis. It is often given in conjunction with massage therapy, especially when done at a spa or a chiropractic clinic.

Also, especially for the hands, it may be combined with exercises designed to strengthen the hands and improve flexibility. Although it really does sound like a weird quack thing, it is considered highly effective by most medical professionals.

If you have chronic pain in your hands or feet, then talk to a doctor or chiropractor about trying a paraffin bath. (Again, although you can do this at home, it's not recommended to try it without getting good instruction first, as you really can burn yourself quite badly). A chiropractor may also recommend one as part of an overall plan of care for hand or foot issues.
