A spinal cord rehabilitation team consists of a group of individuals you and your family will be working with in case of an injury. Finally, a psychologist would help the survivor and his family cope with life after injury and would help them adjust.

It is the therapist's responsibility to work with the patient during the rehabilitation stage so that the survivor can be returned to optimum health. For the survivor to have the best of strength, endurance and motion, the physical therapist must help the survivor. Apart from that, he or she must help the patient to be able to go through the process of locating the wheelchair, transferring to it, sitting in it, and operating it.

In the event of any speech or communication difficulties, a speech therapist must be part of the team. Recreational therapist helps with the effort to make the survivor function at the optimum level and introduce him or her to things that bring back independence and smile back to the face of the survivor. In the end, if the survivor is someone who is having breathing difficulties, then a respiratory therapist must be engaged.

The support team is the final one. They are made up of different specialists who would assist the survivor to go through life after the spinal cord injury. Social workers would be ready to assist the survivor to take care of important aspects of life such as lifestyle changes, relationships, and finances.

It is the responsibility of a case manager to act as a liaison between the survivor and insurance companies. A vocational counselor would help the survivor with work options while a rehabilitation engineer would design assisted aids that can be used by the survivor. When it comes to treatments, from the acute phase through rehabilitation, the people on your team would determine the success of your long-term outcome.
