Those physicians who really have the specializations about this field in medicine are referred to as proctologists or colorectal surgeons. In this kind of an operation, a lot methods and procedures are involved and these are going to be talked about in this article.

The colorectal surgeons are needed to undergo the extensive education and the advanced trainings. And also, they need to have a very comprehensive knowledge on the general operation, diagnosis, and the treatment for disorders concerning the anus, colon, and rectum. A Morrilton AR colon surgeon specializes in an operative, postoperative, and preoperative care for the patients having colorectal disorders.

There are many different procedures and terms which are often utilized by the surgeons. Most of the commonly used terms in colorectal cancer are the local excision, laparoscopic surgery, polypectomy, and resection. The polypectomy is one procedure in which the polyps, small growths in the colons lining are being removed in performing colonoscopy. A colonoscopy is a procedure that will use colonoscope and are inserted into a rectum to view rectum and colon.

Local excision may be used for treatment of rectum cancers. This involves the removal of cancer and of some tissues from the rectum wall. This may be done by the anus or by the small cut in rectums. This procedure is not required in doing a major operation in the abdominal part. Resection is the removal of the parts of colon together with the tissues and cancer attached to it.

The laparoscopic surgery is a process on performing a laparoscopy, meaning, to look inside on the cavities of abdominal parts with the use of special types of cameras or scopes. An incision is being performed in an abdomen and those laparoscopic instruments are being inserted through small incisions. All pictures of the intestinal organs are being transmitted into the video monitor to be seen by the surgeon.

Other 4 important procedures involved in colorectal surgeries are J pouch, K pouch, fecal diversion, and stomas. A stoma is an opening of parts in bowel to a skin. The permanent stoma is created if the stools cannot pass to its normal routes when the surgery is done. The temporary stoma is created to keep the stools away from the operated areas.

Fecal diversion is a procedure where in an ileostomy or opening of a part between the skin and small intestine is created. Colostomy or opening of part between the skin and colon may also be done. Fecal diversion is often used for the temporary measure for allowing the healing of surgery, chronic inflammation, or infection.

The attached K pouch to anus allows the person in doing a similar way when going to a bathroom. It provides a reservoir for stools and adds a nipple valve for preventing the stools in leaking. K pouch is not often performed by most surgeons because of complexity in the surgery.

The J pouch is made in the end of a small intestine in order to provide a place of stool before a person will go to a bathroom for the proctocolectomy. Many forms are under the ileal pouches. The J pouch is the very common form of ileal pouch.
