What Are The Features Of A Good Drug Education Program?

By Dorothy Watson

In modern society, youth get access to oral and written materials on alcohol and substance abuse. These materials may stress on the negative effects but the person may choose to ignore this fact. As a matter of fact, they often think that celebrities have made it through life despite their addiction to these drugs. They will emulate this concept thinking that they can get away with it. However, what they will not realize is that they are harming their bodies and general well being. A child needs to be introduced to a drug education program to help them analyze the risk factors.

The educators who facilitate these programs are aware of the physical and mental needs of participants. That is why they provide more realistic pictures of abuse. Also, they are aware that it is difficult for a person to say no to drugs intake whenever they are offered a joint or a beer. They will ensure that by the time the student leaved the forum, he/she will be able to make decisions on their own to continue or to stop the drug use.

The best learning tool would be use off audio visuals. They tend to give the student metal image of what an addicted person goes through. They are presented in forms of DVDs and written materials to facilitate the prevention of the use among the youth. Use of humor is encouraged to make the sessions livelier.

Volunteers and education workers formed an association known as Youth, Ownership and Understanding (YOU) in 2011. The participants are taken through a prevention program that lasts up to 8 weeks. The most a volunteer can do is to explain their experiences while they were using the drugs and how they got out of this bondage.

Reliable evidence is often credible only if it is presented in the right manner. Educators will conduct researches to find out what drives the youth into using drugs. Their findings will give them the leeway to moderating their next subject matter. The studies are often conducted in schools and other social places where young people often converge.

It is advisable to check the progress of these researches by conducting visits to these institutions time and again. That way, they shall verify whether they need to include a game plan or to use what they already have. Their end goal is to compel the young people into making sound decisions.

The best way to prevent a young person from engaging in drugs is by helping them to establish a purpose in life. This will prevent him/her from being idle. It is believed that a busy person has no time to think about it let alone use it.

What a young person does not know is that the end result of a prolonged substance abuse is often worse. Your supplier may be aware of the risks that are involved but may choose to ignore the warning signs. Their main aim is to sell as much drugs as possible to make profits. In the long run, the victim may encounter ill health or even death.
