Regulations For Basketball Across The Country

By Lisa Robinson

Young boys and girls in high school like to play the basketball because of its unique features. The rules for basketball across the country are original as they were not modified from any other existing sport before their formation. The moves, scoring system and so on are quite unique in the sports. The game was created by Dr. James Naismith who at that time wanted an indoor sport. Nine players come from each side, making a total of 18 for the game. Knowing how the rules differ from other sport rules is necessary.

The points made by a successful throw of the ball into the basket depends on the spot the shot was taken. A free throw that enters the net scores just one point. The free throw is normally given as a penalty to a foul. A side can win three points if a successful shot is taken from outside the three point line. The score is two points for a good throw that is within the three point line.

At the end of the game, all the points are calculated and scored. The winning team is the team with the most points. The way the throws are scored makes the game a very unpredictable one because unlike football where a goal is similar to one point despite where the shot is taken, points in basketball can accumulate within minutes. There is no need for players to play defensive in the game because that would give the opponent the opportunity to accumulate three points per shot easily.

You should never touch the ball with your leg in an attempt to move it. The rule strictly recommends that only the hand touches the ball. You also have to learn when one hand should be used and when using two hands is preferred.

No player is expected to run into his opponent's court with the ball. This is another difference between basketball and football where any footballer is free to run into the penalty box to score even when there is no defense. A player can only gain access into the opposition's half by bouncing the ball or dribbling other players.

The officials look out for situations where players are said to carry the ball. Carrying the ball is the phenomenon whereby a team mate touches the bottom of the ball while trying to maneuver his opponents. The right position to touch the ball while dribbling is the top of it and failure to adhere to this grants the other side the right to handle the ball.

Players are not allowed to pass the ball behind them once they have crossed their own half. This is why you will often see his team mates moving towards the other half once he has crossed the half. If the team tries to shoot and it is deflected by the defending side into the other half, then nothing stops the side where the ball lands from picking it.

The basketball game is a fast one because the players are also conscious of the time rules. The area where the game is played is called a court. The highest authority in the game is known as FIBA.
