Notes On Sensory Processing Disorder

Disorders of sensory usually refers to the nervous system way of receiving messages from body senses and turning these messages into responses. For those people suffering from SPD, sensory information is received by the brain but it fails to organize the information into appropriate responses. Basically there are many signs that a person can watch out for to know whether they are suffering from sensory processing disorder.

This basically is a type of neurological disorder that is as a result of abnormal responses to sensory messages. The actual cause of the condition has not been recognized of late. Research and studies have proposed that this condition is actually inherited. Certain environmental factors, birth complications together with prenatal have been suggested as some of the possible causes of the SPD.

There is a possibility that each sensory system can be affected by such a problem. The sensory systems include interception, vestibular, tactile, auditory and visual. This problem has varying symptoms as it depends on the affected sense, the manner in which the sense is affected and how severe the condition is. People suffering from such a problem mostly face difficulties when interpreting sensory messages such as movement, sound or even touch. In most cases they have a feeling of bombardment of information.

This feeling compels them to look for powerful sensory practice. Sometimes they are not conscious of other people sensations. People with such condition possess sensory motor symptoms like body weakness, motor skills are sometimes delayed, awkwardness and also clumsiness. People possessing such a condition have symptoms which actually yield problems in their behaviors, emotions, social and also attention skills.

Though we are living in modernized word the actual causes of this problem has not been clearly identified. This has made treatment of the illness so difficult to the families having children suffering from such problem. This has been contributed also by the fact that SPD has not yet been recognized for medical diagnosis.

Some other experiments have indicated that some of those kids whom possess such conditions have a strong response to stoke on their hand or even a loud sound. This is not a usual case to all of them as some of them are quickly used to such sensations. A lot of families with children with such conditions find difficulties in getting assistance. This has been propelled by the fact that, medically this condition has not been acknowledged.

Regardless of lack of widely satisfactory diagnostic procedure, most occupational therapist whom commonly notice such a condition they actually treat both adults and children. The individual requirements determine the kind of treatment to be offered. Generally therapist assists children to improve on their daily activities. These therapists also try to assist these children in adapting to those things which they are not able to withstand.

The second phase of this therapy involves actions where the parent is involved in play sessions that basically challenges the patient. This phase assists the child to enter in the world of the parent. This challenges the child. Experiences in this play help the patient in mastering some important skills.
