Oral hygiene is the backbone of a healthy mouth and beautiful smile. However, you need to couple it with avoiding dangerous behaviors that can bring down your dental health. The fact is that some of the things people do every day seem harmless and good to do, but they can gradually injure teeth without your realization. Knowing these habits can ensure that you take good care of your teeth. It is also good to appreciate that living right is not a substitute of visiting an affordable dentist Dearborn has today.

The first mistake is crunching. Many people swallow an ice tea or ice cold soda and then crunch the ice left in their mouth. The effect is that the cold temperature and brittleness of the ice cubes may lead to fracturing of the teeth. They can lead to microscopic cracks on your enamel of your teeth leading to major dental issues over time.

Some people use their teeth for habits that are dangerous. They use the teeth to tear open bags of potato chips, open bottles of sodas, and even crack nuts. Using your teeth for this purpose is very dangerous since you apply too much force on your teeth, and the teeth may not be able to withstand this force. It can weaken your teeth edges or leading to chipping off or fracturing teeth.

Also, you should avoid teeth grinding. It does not matter when you grind your teeth. Some people grind the teeth during the day, while others during the night. The fact is that there are many reasons people can grind their teeth and this may include due to stress or anxiety. Many dentists might suggest that you wear a mouth guard to avoid grinding teeth during the night. Also, you can control the habit by first appreciating that you grind the teeth, know the cause and seek for help.

Antiseptic rinses are important in keeping off bacteria which may lead to bad breath and gum diseases. Rinsing with fluoride helps prevent tooth decay. Also, you should ensure that you do not forget brushing twice daily. Take five to ten minute to ensure that you brush every part of your mouth including the tongue.

Another common habit among adults and kids is taking food and beverage that have a lot of sugar. The fact is that sugary foods can be addictive, once you take the first one, you feel like you would want to take more and more. However, this is not right. Avoid sugary food to maintain your teeth healthy.

Also, some behaviors can lead to discoloring of your teeth. For instance, smoking and taking wine are cited as major cause of teeth yellowing. Also, you should ensure that you take some water immediately after eating some acidic foods such as oranges and citrus fruits that has a lot of acid. This is because this acid is not good for teeth.

Lastly, ensure that a dentist checks the teeth regularly. This is the only way you can ensure a healthy oral health. You should not wait to be in pain to seek the help of an oral health provider.
