Insight On DaVinci Robotic Surgery Houston And Its Merits

By Larry Wright

Nothing could ever scare the prostate cancer patients like the term surgery. The prostate is such a sensitive organ that any operation is bound to be accompanied by various side effects. However, such patients may finally have a sigh of relief upon hearing About the latest surgical technology dubbed the DaVinci robotic surgery Houston technique.

Robotic surgery is the in thing in the field of medicine and more so surgical operations. Unlike the conventional surgery in which the surgeon himself made incisions, three or four robotic arms are used in the procedures. Incisions are made through which these arms are inserted into the patient. Two of the arms are used as the surgeons arm; the other one is used as a camera. The fourth may be used to remove obstacles.

A viewfinder technique is used which provides a three-dimensional simulation field in a computer. Special devices in which numerous motion sensors have been attached are used to control the direction of motion of ones arms. The arms are designed to flatten out any vibration which may occur due to shaking of physicians arms. The flattening improves the precision of these equipment.

The technique is highly favoured compared to the traditional one because of its numerous advantages over the traditional one. These include; There are fewer side effects when using this technique. Using the method ensures their nerves are preserved during the procedure. The nerve paths can be quickly left untampered.

The patients have been reported to have less recovery period using this technique. In an open surgery technique, the patients were usually advised to undergo a physiotherapy due to the weakening of muscles. Often this was attributed to the long hours under the blades. But is no longer the case as the procedures are done much faster. It also saves on the money spent on therapy.

The scars that remain after the procedures are fewer and minor. This can be a very relevant factor especially when the operations are conducted on a part, and stitching has to be done on the surface. Large scars are often unpleasant and unsightly to look at.

In open operation, most of the errors associated with the carelessness of the surgeons were reported. In some instances, the patient was reported to have surgical incision blades left on the body organs, and stitching was done. The probability of occurrence of such mistakes is almost zero as the equipment used to have a high precision.

There is reduced the risk of infection. The equipment used are sterilized before use. Since there is no contact with the machine operators, the equipment can be considered safe to use. This, in turn, gives the patients the courage to carry on with the procedure, as their safety from infection is guaranteed.

There is a marked reduction of blood lost during the operations. In the previous years, some patients have bled to death due to excessive blood loss in the open surgery. Other cases are also reported of further internal bleeding even after the stitching was done.

The advantages are not only limited to the ones mentioned above. There is also reduced pain and discomfort, greater visualization and enhanced dexterity fewer people are also needed to conduct the surgery.
