In the last few years, stocks have been on a down swing for awhile. During the turn of the century (late 90's), there was definitely a boom. Then, in the late 2000's, there was definitely a bust. Currently, the Dow Jones index (which is a major indicator on the condition of the stock market because it is composed of a variable mix of private companies) has been going up (after going down). For many years, I have tried to "predict" the market by investing in the companies that are considered a value by experts. There were too many variables that were out of my control.
The key word is control. I can choose to invest at a certain point- but there is not much I can do to improve upon the company or the stock. Unless I am a majority owner, I cannot do anything to directly steer the direction of the company to make it profitable for me (or any other investor). When I was an active day trader, any profit that I have made has been consumed by fees and more fees- later capital gains taxes (if I sold my stocks for a gain). Being "knowledgeable" can hurt you in the long run because your confidence (or ego) can make you think you are smarter than you really are. There are too many factors that you cannot control to become profitable in the stock market. I am still involved in the stock market but more in the long-term mutual funds. What does the stock market have to do with your weight loss and physical fitness program? They are both related. But, you have more control of your weight loss and physical fitness program than you have with the stock market.
Your weight loss and physical fitness program are controlled by your diet and exercise program. Whether you choose to be part of a program or not, you are by default in some program. It is best to be in control of your diet program and exercise program in order to be in control of your weight loss and physical fitness program. There are some other variables such as your rest periods (e.g. sleep), etc. As a whole, you are definitely in control of the variables to succeed in your weight loss program so that you can lose weight and be healthy. You have to develop and practice knowledge and habits so that you will be profitable in your health. That is a great position to be in.
You do not need a broker.
You do not have to pay any additional fees.
You do not have to worry about any taxes.
