Who can succeed to lose weight after 40? Most healthy individuals after 40 have a greater chance of weight loss success than in their younger years. That may seem like a strange statement, because, most people know that your metabolism slows down as you age. Also hormones play a role in weight variances. So why would 40 year old's have a better chance of losing weight than they did 10 years previous? The answer lies with time. Most people in their 40's or later, are done with school, have an established job, and may have older children. Although the trend for starting a family is to begin later in life, but even then, family's are smaller and the time frame to raise children decreases.


Often in races like marathons, cycling, or swim meets, it is the 40 year old's and above competitors that make the best times. The reason is that they have more time to spend on training and exercising.

The downside of trying to lose weight after 40 is that your body may not respond to exercise as quickly as it did twenty years ago. But the good thing is that you may have more time to focus on yourself. It may be easier to prepare and eat meals that are healthier as your family is getting older too.

People over 40 tend to have more money that they can spend on themselves. Gym memberships may be used more for 40 plus individuals because they have more time and money.

Tips To Lose Weight After 40

*Use time to your advantage. Join a group for weight loss either locally, or online. Having a big support system is very rewarding and improves your chances for weight loss success.

*Use a food journal everyday. Write down what you eat for every meal and snack. Then you can have a better idea of what kinds of foods you are predominately eating.

*Try a new sport, exercise program, or activity. Don't act your age! Explore and have fun with new adventures. A new activity could spark motivation and inspire you to get better. Who know, you may enjoy it and then you will have an easier time being active and staying healthy.

*Be positive. Be kind to yourself and your body. Your body has been through a lot with you, so don't downgrade it's current state. It has potential and you have the power inside of yourself to make it happen.
